Everything here is made from paper that comes to my door — circulars, catalogs, the Seattle Times. Rainier is a different kind of arrival. It shows up when the clouds allow it, and the whole city stops what it's doing. The paper tears soft and won't hold a hard edge, which is about right for a mountain that's usually half hidden.
